Position: Power Systems Engineer – Modular Deployment

Location: Darwin, Australia
Employment Type: Full Time

Overview

AER Energy is deploying Australia’s first modular, carbon-negative power plants — built on high-efficiency gasification, 24/7 operability, and grid-ready design. We are hiring a Power Systems Engineer to support the deployment and integration of modular renewable energy systems in Darwin. You’ll play a critical role in optimizing performance, managing onsite systems, and ensuring power output aligns with project and grid requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the electrical integration of modular gasification systems into site-wide power architecture
  • Design, review, and optimize single-line diagrams, load flow, and protection systems
  • Collaborate with controls and automation teams on remote operability and telemetry
  • Oversee installation and commissioning of generators, switchgear, and transformers
  • Ensure compliance with NT grid standards and liaise with utilities as needed
  • Perform system performance testing and identify efficiency improvements
  • Support documentation, certification, and safety protocols across the power block

Qualifications

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering or Power Systems Engineering
  • 5+ years’ experience in power generation, renewable energy, or modular infrastructure
  • Strong understanding of genset performance, load balancing, and black-start strategies
  • Experience working with SCADA, PLCs, or AI-integrated energy controls
  • Familiar with AS/NZS standards and utility interfacing (NT or national grid)

Preferred

  • Previous work on gasification, waste-to-energy, or islanded power systems
  • Knowledge of carbon-negative or BECCS applications
  • NT Electrical License or eligibility for recognition
